A-SUN PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM | A-SUN RELEASE
KENNESAW, Ga. – After leading the Kennesaw State softball team a season ago, senior pitcher
Amanda Henderson earned Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason All-Conference honors, the league announced Monday.
Â
"I am very honored for Amanda as she is very deserving of this award," said first-year head coach
Wes Holly, Jr. "She has been a very important part of our pitching staff since her arrival at Kennesaw State and I want her to finish her career at KSU on the highest note for herself."
Â
Henderson was the ace of the KSU pitching staff a season ago, collecting A-Sun Second-Team All-Conference accolades and three A-sun Pitcher of the Week honors in 2013. She finished the season with an 18-4 record, with an ERA of 2.00 in 168.1 innings, both of which ranked fourth in the conference.
Â
The Covington, Ga., native totaled 14 complete games and six shutouts, while only allowing 48 earned runs. Henderson led the A-Sun and ranked 77th in the nation with 194 strikeouts, including posting 13 games with seven or more strikeouts.
Along with ranking first in the league in strikeouts, Henderson's four saves also led the conference and ranked 21st in the NCAA. She also owned the second-best opponent batting average in the A-Sun with a .204 clip.
Â
The Owls were picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Softball Coaches Poll with 58 votes, while 2013 A-Sun Tournament Champion USC Upstate earned the top position with 97 votes, including seven first-place votes. Florida Gulf Coast (85, two first-place votes), Lipscomb (78, one first-place vote) and North Florida (77) round out the top five in the poll.
Â
The Eagles' Chelsea Zgrabik earned Preseason Player of the Year accolades for the second-consecutive year, while UNF's Kaylie Wallace took home Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors.
Henderson and the Owls open the 2014 campaign in Troy, Ala., for the Troy Subway Invitational on Feb. 7-8.
