KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State senior men’s golfers
Ben Greene (Duluth, Ga. / Peachtree Ridge HS) and
Peder Lunde Hermansson (Gothenburg, Sweden / Katrine lundsgymnasiet) have been named to the 2012-13 Division I Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Friday.
Selected by members of CoSIDA, the Capital One Academic All-America teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographical districts across the United States and Canada.
Kennesaw State is part of a district that includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina. As first-team Academic All-District honorees, Greene and Hermansson advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
“The Capital One Academic All-America program long has been recognized as one of the premier programs that honor student-athletes who excel athletically and academically,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “To be named to the Academic All-District Team is a great honor for Ben and Peder, and recognition they both should feel proud about.
“They have been tremendous student-athletes and I am extremely happy to see them recognized by the CoSIDA members for their hard work the past four years,” Moseley said. “To graduate with 4.0 grade-point averages while majoring in finance speaks volumes about their character and work ethic.”
Greene recently was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year while Hermansson also was named to the A-Sun Conference’s All-Academic team.
Both players helped the Owls earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships where they are currently competing in the NCAA Southwest Regional at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
Kennesaw State University is celebrating 30 years of intercollegiate athletics during the 2012-13 academic year.
