2013 NFCA ALL-REGION TEAMS
KENNESAW, Ga. – Following an impressive final campaign on the Kennesaw State softball team, senior
Sharon Swanson (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) added another accolade to her illustrious career as she was tabbed National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region Second-Team for the second consecutive season, the organization announced on Thursday, May 16.
“What a wonderful way for Sharon to cap off her career,” said Senior Associate Athletics Director and former Owl Head Coach
Scott Whitlock. “She was so important to us and led us in so many ways. I am grateful that the voters afforded her this honor.”
Along with award, Swanson also garnered her third-straight A-Sun All-Conference First-Team honors earlier this month after being named to the first-team following her sophomore and junior seasons.
The senior led the Owls offensively throughout the entire season, posting a team-leading .361 batting average, which also ranked sixth in the conference, as well as leading KSU in hits (61), runs (23), RBI (36), home runs (11), total bases (101), slugging percentage (.598), on-base percentage (.398) and sacrifice flies (four). Her 61 hits also rank fourth in the conference and she has also notched seven doubles, which ranks second on the team. The senior was also strong defensively, owning a 1.000 fielding percentage with 106 putouts and two assists in limited play at first base.
During the regular season, the Canton, Ga., native tallied an eight-game hitting streak, as well as a seven-game hitting streak, while also registering 15 multi-hit games, including five three-hit games. She registered eight multi-RBI games, including a season-high four RBI in a 6-2 win over Georgia Southern on March 2.
Swanson and the Owls closed out the final season with Whitlock at the helm with a 34-20 overall record, a 16-6 mark in conference action and an appearance in the 2013 A-Sun Softball Championship.
