KENNESAW, Ga. – Following strong rookie campaigns, Kennesaw State men’s tennis freshmen Maksim Yorsh and Tobi Menhofer each took home Atlantic Sun Conference honors as Yorsh was tabbed Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun at the No. 2 singles position and Menhofer earned All-Freshman Team accolades, the conference announced on Thursday.

The two selections are the most-ever for a single season for the program and only the third and fourth overall all-conference honorees in program history. Ryan Spencer and Alex Toliver were both previously named to the All-Freshman team, with Spencer earning the achievement in 2011 and Toliver in 2012.

Yorsh becomes the first-ever Owl to be named to All-Atlantic Sun First or Second-Team after ranking second on the team in overall singles wins with seven. The Minsk, Belarus native showed his versatility as he posted wins at the No. 2 through No. 5 positions, while working his way up the lineup throughout the season. He twice registered three-match winning streaks in singles action and was the co-leader on the team with three conference wins, with two of the three coming on court two. In doubles action, Yorsh recorded five wins, including a 2-0 mark at No. 3 doubles and three wins in A-Sun play.

Menhofer, the third-consecutive KSU men’s tennis player to make the All-Freshman squad, made an immediate impact in his first season as an Owl. The Pfronten, Germany native played at the No. 1 singles position in every dual match of the season for Kennesaw State and ranked third on the team with five singles victories. Menhofer combined with sophomore Louis Theodor to lead KSU in doubles action, registering a team-leading eight wins, including two in conference action at the No. 1 position. The pair opened the 2013 season winning five of six matches, including four-straight to start the season.

The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 5-14 and a 2-6 mark in conference action. The Owls posted its first-ever win over rival Mercer, while also receiving its first-ever A-Sun Player of the Week plaudit as Theodor earned the honor on April 10 after winning the deciding point in KSU’s 4-3 win over the Bears on April 6.

The Owls are slated to return six players from this year’s squad, including Yorsh, Menhofer and Theodor, as well as freshman Jorge Wilton and sophomores Alexander Pena and Matthew Johnson.
