Apostu Garners Third Career A-Sun Player of the Week Honor

KENNESAW, Ga. – Junior Alexandra Apostu was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week after leading the Kennesaw State women’s tennis team to its third-straight conference win over the weekend with a 6-1 decision at Mercer on Saturday.  
 
It is the third career Player of the Week award for the Bucharest, Romania native and the first of the season for the Owls.
 
Against the Bears, Apostu and sophomore Jana Hueckinghaus continued their undefeated mark at No. 1 doubles in league play with an 8-2 win over Lucie Payrat and Isabel Dennis. It was the duo’s fifth-straight conference win.
 
The nursing major then registered the first singles victory against MU as she blanked Liza Klyachkin, 6-0, 6-0 on court three for her fourth-straight win at No. 3 singles.
 
With the win over the Bears, the Owls clinched a spot in the A-Sun Championship on April 19-21 on the campus of East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn.
 
Apostu and the Owls wrap up regular season play this weekend, as KSU hosts USC Upstate on Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. (ET), followed by East Tennessee State on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga.
