KENNESAW, Ga. – Strong pitching from senior
Abbey Mixon (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) and a pair of home runs from junior
Angie Dascoli (West Melbourne, Fla./State College of Florida) and senior
Sharon Swanson (Woodstock, Ga./Cherokee HS) led the Kennesaw State softball team past Bowling Green, 5-0, in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial on Saturday at Bailey Park.
KSU moves to 10-1 in 2013, while the Falcons fell to 2-1 on the season.
The Owls opened the scoring early as Dascoli blasted a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning to put Kennesaw State up 2-0.
Swanson added to the KSU lead in the fifth frame with a solo shot of her own to right center.
Kennesaw State tallied a pair of insurance runs in the sixth when freshman
Alexis Collis (Blue Ridge, Ga./Fanin County HS) singled to first base to score senior
Jensen Hackett (Tunnel Hill, Ga./Ringgold HS). Swanson then reached on a fielding error by BGSU third baseman Chloe Giordano, bringing home junior
Carly Van Auken (Largo, Fla./State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota) from third base.
After giving up back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases in the top of the seventh inning, Mixon (4-0) pitched out of the jam to post her fourth win of the season and earn KSU the 5-0 victory.
The Owls outhit the Falcons seven to three, with BGSU suffering two errors in the outing.
Dascoli led KSU with two RBI, while Swanson recorded two runs. Mixon registered five strikeouts in the win, while only allowing three hits and two walks in seven innings of work.
Pitcher Jamie Kertes (1-1) took the loss for BGSU.
