A-SUN RELEASE

KENNESAW, Ga. –
Junior Amanda Henderson (Covington, Ga./Eastside HS) was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading the Kennesaw State softball team to an undefeated record in the opening weekend of the 2013 season, the league announced on Monday.

It is the second such honor for Henderson, after she earned the award on Feb. 20 of the 2012 season.

“Amanda had a great weekend,” said Head Coach Scott Whitlock. “Three wins and a save, wow. After missing the entire fall due to an injury it was a boost to everybody's confidence to see her back out there pain free."

Henderson posted a 3-0 record and tallied a save in two starts and four appearances as the Owls swept all five of their games at the Georgia Tech-Kennesaw State Invitational. The junior registered a 1.00 ERA, while totaling 26 strikeouts and only allowing three earned runs in 21 innings of work. Her weekend was highlighted by a 10-strikeout performance in a 1-0 extra inning win over Coastal Carolina on Friday night.

Kennesaw State next hosts the KSU Classic Feb. 16-17 at the Twin Creeks Park in Woodstock, Ga., and opens the tournament against SIU Edwardsville, beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).
