DAY TWO RESULTS
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshmen
Jorge Wilton and
Maksim Yorsh teamed for a 8-4 win over Liberty’s Sergio Mourelo and Guillem Secanell to advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket as the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team wrapped up day two of the Wake Forest Spring Invitational on Saturday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
“Even though the results were not what we hoped to achieve, we had some good matches out there today, especially Tobi and Gokalp,” said Head Coach #T.J. Greggs#. “Maks and Jorge played a solid match, but our energy level in doubles overall simply was not there this morning. We have some work to do, but our attitudes been good so far this weekend.”
Freshman
Tobi Menhofer and sophomore
Louis Theodor fell, 8-2, to Dillon Segur and Jorge Azuero of Liberty, while the Flames’ Egon Samaii and Shea Thomas defeated sophomores Alexander Pena and
Matthew Johnson, 8-1, to round out the doubles action.
In singles play, Menhofer put a scare into the tournament’s No. 3 seed, Danny Kreyman of Wake Forest, before falling 7-5, 7-5 to the senior in the round of 16. The freshman had two set points in the first set, but could not capitalize against the 90th-ranked player in the nation. Yorsh, the second Owl in the round of 16, dropped his match, 6-2, 6-0, to the Demon Deacons’ Adam Lee.
In the consolation bracket, Theodor, Johnson, Pena, and Ozdemir each fell in their matches on Saturday, while Wilton withdrew due to injury. Tournament action continues Sunday with consolation play in singles and doubles for the Owls.
