SATURDAY RESULTS
AUBURN, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team wrapped up the Auburn Fall Invitational, its first tournament of the fall season, on Saturday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center with final day singles wins from Senior
Therese Lagerkvist (Koping, Sweden/ Adalsskolan), Junior
Alexandra Apostu (Bucharest, Romania/ Ion Barbu) and freshman
Isabela Castro (Brazil/ Santa Doroteia).
Apostu rebounded from her loss in the first round to tally two-consecutive wins en route to the fight two consolation championship, including a 6-4, 6-4 win over Louisiana-Lafayette’s Bailey Vandyke on Saturday.
Both Lagerkvist and Castro nabbed third place in the main draw of flights five and seven, respectively. Lagerkvist registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lamar’s Dariya Dashutina, while Castro tallied a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (7) defeat of Chattanooga’s Jovana Pecovski.
Virginie Stein (Gevelsberg, Germany/Gymnasium Gevelsberg) fell 6-3, 6-2 to Auburn’s Jackie Kasler in the flight three championship match. Freshman
Blaire LaSure (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier HS) dropped her only match on the day to round out the Owls singles action.
In doubles play, Apostu and Stein dropped both of their final two doubles matches in flight one, while Lagerkvist and Castro fell in their lone doubles match of the day in flight three.
The Owls next travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic on Friday, Sept. 28 to Sunday, Sept. 30.
