KENNESAW, Ga. – Freshman
Tobi Menhofer (Pfronten, Germany/Gymnasium Hohenschwangau) has had a strong debut for the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team through two days at the 45
th Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
In Mehofer’s first tournament as an Owl, the freshman remains undefeated through his first three division II singles matches, defeating North Florida’s Bernardo Craveiro 6-2, 6-3 in round one and Liberty’s Sergio Mourelo 6-2, 6-0 in round two. Menhofer then posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over UNF’s Norbert Nemcsek to advance to the main draw quarterfinals on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
Sophomore
Alex Toliver (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral HS) dropped his first round division I singles match, while fellow classmates
Matthew Johnson (Roswell, Ga./Roswell HS), Alexander Pena (Johns Creek, Ga./Lambert HS) and
Louis Theodor (Jakarta, Indonesia/Jubilee School, along with freshman
Jorge Wilton (Ashtead, England/Reeds School), fell in their respective first round division II singles matches.
In doubles action, the pairing of Menhofer and Theodor dropped an 8-4 match to Georgia’s Marco Nunez and Austin Smith in division I, while Pena and Toliver fell 8-5 to Mauricio Antun and Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech in division II.
Toliver begins the Division I consolation draw on Sunday, with a first round match at 10 a.m. Johnson, Pena, Theodor and Wilton start the Division II consolation draw on Sunday, with first round matches also beginning at 10 a.m.
