Léa Charpier Leads Kennesaw State After Opening Round of Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational

WEST POINT, Miss. – Sophomore Léa Charpier (Paris, France//Lycee de Chatenay Malabry) carded a 3-over par 75 to lead the Kennesaw State women’s golf team during Monday’s first round of the season-opening Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational hosted by Mississippi State at the par-72 Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

Charpier’s 75 places her in a tie for 17th place, six shots off the lead, and helped the Owls tie for ninth place after 18 holes. Kennesaw State posted a 21-over par total of 309 and is 19 shots off the pace set by Tulane.

The Green Wave recorded a 2-over par team total of 290 and has a four-shot advantage over second place Arkansas and Kentucky, who finished their opening round with a 294. Mississippi State (297) is fourth and is followed by Murray State (303).

Tulane’s Gemma Dryburgh is the first-round leader after posting a 3-under par 69 and holds a one stroke lead over Arkansas’ Emma Lavy (70). Kentucky’s Ashleigh Albrecht and Emily Penttila of Tulane are two shots off the lead and tied for third after shooting a 1-under par 71.

Only four players were able to finish their round under par and five managed even-par rounds as the 6,204-yard course played to an average score of 77.47.

Kennesaw State sophomore Kaew Preamchuen (Chachoengsao, Thailand/Datdaruni School) is tied for 27th following a 4-over score of 76, while sophomore Ines Lescudier (Marseille, France / Tulane University) is tied for 37th after shooting a 78. Junior Lindsay Adams (Lawrenceville, Ga./Great Atlanta Christian) shot an 8-over score of 80 to tie for 43rd and senior Ket Preamchuen posted an 81 and is tied for 49th.

The Owls, who are just six shots out of fifth place, return to the course on Tuesday to play the second round. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com. Kennesaw State is scheduled to tee off from the 10th beginning at 8:40 a.m. and is grouped with Memphis and South Florida.
