Baseball Summer League Wrap Up

Summarizing The Summer of 16 KSU Baseball Players

KENNESAW, Ga. – With the emergence of fall baseball right around the corner, we take a look back at the summer 16 Kennesaw State baseball players had in their respective collegiate summer league.

Six Owls were selected as All-Stars, three were designated as top prospects from their league, and one was named his leagues Defensive Player of the Year.

Below is a recap of all the Owls who played baseball this summer with team/league in parenthesis.

Andrew Austin (Home Plate Chukars/ Sunbelt) - One of four KSU teammates on the Chukars… Pitched 20.2 innings, recording a 1-0 record with 25 strikeouts, 4 saves, and a 1.31 ERA with only 3 walks… Also had 19 AB’s with a .211 AVG, with four hits including two doubles... Invited to represent the Sunbelt League in their league-wide all-star game.

Travis Bergen (Home Plate Chukars/ Sunbelt) - One of four KSU teammates on the Chukars… Appeared in 10 games, pitching 25.2 innings while posting a 1-2 record… Had an ERA of 6.31 with 33 strikeouts along with two saves.

Jacob Bruce (Lima Locos/ Great Lakes) - One of two KSU teammates on the Locos...  Appeared in 31 games with 119 at bats…  Hit .294 including four doubles, two triples, a home run and 18 RBI… Also stole nine bases and recorded 10 walks… Helped his team get into the playoffs where he hit .182win 1 RBI in 11 post-season at bats.

Colton Cross (New Bedford Bay Sox/ NECBL) - Pitched 33 innings with a 3.00 ERA, including 29 strike outs with just 24 walks… He posted a 4-2 regular season record and a team high in wins along with a 1-0 playoff record… Was invited to play in NECBL league all-star game to represent the East All Stars.

Drew Duncan (Berkeley Lake Tides/ Sunbelt) - Pitched 37 innings only giving up 29 hits, 10 runs and 14 walks... Had third lowest ERA (1.09) and recorded 32 strikeouts while leading the team in wins (4).

Anthony Duran (6-4-3 DP / Sunbelt) - One of three KSU teammates on the Cougars... Appeared in 18 games with 43 AB’s with a .047 AVG... He had four RBI with seven walks.

Caden Ferquson (6-4-3 DP / Sunbelt) - One of three KSU teammates on the Cougars. Pitched in four different games with a total of eight innings... Posted a 9.00 ERA and punched out 11 batters and allowed only four walks.

Nathan Harsh (Holyoke Blue Sox/ NECBL) - Pitched in three games throwing 12 innings… He recorded a 7.50 ERA, along with a 1-0 record with four saves and 13 strikeouts.

Peyton Hart (New Bedford Bay Sox/ NECBL) - One of two KSU players on the Bay Sox… Was named the Defensive Player of the Year after finishing the season with a .965 fielding percentage in 41 games… Batted .279 with 19 RBI on the season… Invited to represent the NECBL in their league-wide all-star game… Was named a NECBL Top-40 prospect by Perfect Game USA as the No. 31 prospect.

Dylan Ivey (Berkeley Lake Tides/ Sunbelt)- One of two KSU teammates on the Tides.  Played in 15 games with 41 AB’s… Hit .317 with five RBI and scored eight runs scored.

Kevin Kyle (Windward Braves/ Sunbelt) - Appeared in three games, throwing seven innings while posting a 12.86 ERA… He had seven punch-outs and four walks during his three starts.

Alex Liquori (Home Plate Chukars/ Sunbelt) - One of four KSU teammates on the Chukars… Appeared in 8 games with 26 AB’s… He hit with an AVG of .462 with six runs, including a home run and a stolen base.

Justin McCalvin (Lima Locos / Great Lakes) - Pitched 23.2 innings this season, allowing just one run and maintaining a .38 ERA… Surrendered only 12 hits while striking out 31 hitters in 16 appearances as the Locos closer… Invited to represent the Great Lakes North in their league-wide all-star game… Was named a Great Lakes Top-30 prospect by Perfect Game USA as the No. 14 prospect.

Kevin McCoy (Berkeley Lake Tides/ Sunbelt) - One of two KSU teammates on the Tides… Appeared in five games, throwing 20 innings… Struck out 27 batters while only allowing 15 hits... Earned an ERA of 2.25, which was lowest on the team for pitching over one inning… Invited to represent the Sunbelt League in their league-wide all-star game.

Chris McGowan (Lima Locos/ Great Lakes) - One of two KSU teammates on the Locos…Appeared in 30 total games (including playoffs) for the Locos...Batted .283 with 2 HR’s and finished third on the team in RBI (18).

Brennan Morgan (Home Plate Chukars/ Sunbelt) - One of four KSU teammates on the Chukars… Appeared in 22 games with 73 AB’s…. Hit .219 with two doubles, a triple, and a homerun along with 14 RBI and 2 stolen bases... Invited to represent the Sunbelt League in their league-wide all-star game.

Max Pentecost (Holyoke Blue Sox/ NECBL) – Hit .303 in 37 games for the Blue Sox… Bolstered a .424 slugging percentage while leading the team with 27 runs scored… He tripled his homerun total from the spring, belting three homeruns and driving in 15 runs… Was named a NECBL Top-40 prospect by Perfect Game USA as the No. 18 prospect.

Ryan Raper (Douglasville Bulls/Sunbelt) - Hit .226 for the Bulls who went 26-6 for the summer in the Sunbelt League… He contributed to his team winning the Sunbelt League Championship.

Bennett Townsend (6-4-3 DP / Sunbelt) - One of three KSU teammates on the Cougars. Appeared in 15 games with 28 AB’s. Hit for a .214 AVG with seven walks and six strike outs.
