A-Sun Official Release
MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference announced today that freshman
Alex Toliver has been named to the All-Freshman Team for the 2011-12 season. Toliver becomes the second consecutive Owl to receive an all-freshman team recognition, after former Owl Ryan Spencer received the award a year ago.
Toliver played at the top spot for the Owls for most of the season, picking up six victories over Division I opponents, including downing St. Joseph's, Niagara, East Carolina, and Jacksonville State.
"Alex was put in such a tough position this year," commented Head Coach #T.J. Greggs#. "He was asked to take on the toughest opponent on every team we faced, and he fought hard every match. I am proud of the work he put in this season, and I am glad the other coaches saw this and rewarded it."
In top awards, Maksim Levanovich of Stetson was named the Player of the Year, and Tianyu Bao of FGCU was named the Freshman of the Year. Levanovich's only loss of the season in the conference came at the hands of Bao, as both played the top spot for their school. ETSU's Yaser Zaatini was named the Coach of the Year. The Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament will begin on Friday.
