Women's Track Team Continues Success in Birmingham, Ala.

Sydney Williams sets Owls 800 meter record

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women’s track and field team put together another terrific performance on the Birmingham CrossPlex Track at the Birmingham Invitational.

Sydney Williams broke another program record for the 2012 squad in the 800-meter as she won the event with a time of 2:16.68. Her time beat Soibhan Wolcott’s time of 2:22.36, set in 2008 by almost six seconds.

Naomi Mack recorded a personal best in the pentathlon with a total score of 3,442 points.  The senior finished fourth in both the 800m (2:25.73) and the 60m hurdles (8.91) while placing sixth in the shot put (10.61m).  Just behind Mack was her teammate, junior Christie Leverette who totaled 3,310 points. Leverette finished second in the shot put (11.47m), third in the high jump (1.67m) and fourth in the long jump (5.27m).

The distance runners for the Owls put together solid performances, as Jessia Postlewaite finished 14th in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:54.44, while freshman Alla Yoonis had an Owls top-five performance in the mile run with a time of 5:26.72.

Senior Lashanna Barchue put together a great meet in the jumps portion with a fourth place finish in the long jump (5.60m) and 12th place finish in the triple jump (10.63m). Sophomore Rebekah Roop recorded a fourth place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.65m.

The throwers for the Black and Gold along with sprinter Victoria Jackson will be competing Friday in Johnson City, Tenn., at the Niswonger Collegiate Invitational. The Owls will travel back to Birmingham and the CrossPlex Track on Feb. 10-11 to compete in the Samford Invite-CrossPlex.
