Capital One Academic All-District honorees
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Owls junior infielder Brittany Moore was named a Capital One Academic All-District Second Team honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week.
Moore, who heads into this week’s Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament batting .254 with four home runs and 17 RBI, has started in 52 of the Owls 53 games this season, splitting time between first and third base.
More impressive than her athletic accomplishments, however, are her academic credentials, which include a 3.85 cumulative grade point average through the fall 2010 semester. The Phoenix, Ariz., native is a Biology major who plans to pursue a doctorate and go into research after she finishes her undergraduate studies.
“It’s very nice to be recognized because it is a lot of work, between practices, games, and going to class and labs, sometimes it can be a challenge to manage it all,” said Moore, who has also volunteered at the Georgia Aquarium, learning about the behavioral characteristics of various types of sea life. “This kind of honor is very gratifying to receive.”
Owls head coach Scott Whitlock is happy to see a player like Moore earn such a deserving honor.
“I don’t know of anyone who is more deserving of this award than Brittany,” said Whitlock. “She has set a great example for all student-athletes of our how to go about your academic pursuits while competing in athletics at the collegiate level. We are very proud of her.”
The Academic All-District teams were voted on by members of CoSIDA, the national organization for sports information directors. There were 11 players each named to the first second teams in the University Division of District 3, Kennesaw State's designated district.
Moore and her Owls teammates begin their quest for an NCAA Regional berth on Wednesday in the A-Sun Tournament, when they take on the hosting South Carolina Upstate Spartans at 4:30 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
