KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team will have their last preseason tune up on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. when they host Georgia College & State University at KSU Soccer Stadium.

The match will be the second of two exhibitions for the Black and Gold prior to the regular season, which begins on Aug. 20 when they visit the College of Charleston.

The Owls will go into the 2010 regular season picked to finish first in the Atlantic Sun Conference, which was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. The Owls received eight out of a possible 11 first place votes, and it is the fifth year in a row that they have been voted as the preseason favorite to take home the conference crown. Junior forward Kristin Marietta was also honored as the lone Owl selected for the preseason All A-Sun Team.

Head Coach Rob King’s squad was victorious in their first exhibition match of its preseason on Saturday night with an exciting 1-0 win over Jacksonville State University. The Owls opened the new KSU Soccer stadium in style as freshman Alma Gardarsdottir scored the lone goal of the match in the 85th minute to give her team the win.

Four other freshmen besides Gardarsdottir made their collegiate debuts for Kennesaw State on Saturday night, including defender Tasia Williams, defender Olivia McKenzie, midfielder Ashley Gray and forward Katelyn Rikel.

The Owls were happy with the win but there is always room for improvement and that is what coach King will be looking for in Tuesday’s exhibition. “I was pleased with our performance on Saturday night and I am looking forward to the game on Tuesday against GCSU,” Coach King said. “Our team was in good shape, we'll be working on our transitional play in practice this week and fine tuning our set pieces in advance of opening weekend.”

Tuesday night is Welcome Back Student Night at KSU Soccer Stadium. All Kennesaw State students in attendance are welcome to enjoy a tailgate featuring free food and Coca-Cola products.  Tickets for the general public are $6, and are $4 for children who are in eighth grade or younger. As always, admission is free for all KSU students.
