KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State head women's basketball coach is pleased to announce the addition of Dee Dee Merriweather as an assistant coach on his staff. Merriweather comes to Kennesaw State after a successful stint as a player and an assistant coach at Georgia State.
"I think that Dee Dee is going to be an excellent addition to our program," said Coach Tilley. "She came highly recommended to us. She knows the area from her time at South Cobb High as a player to her time at Georgia State as a player and as an assistant coach. With her knowledge of the state of Georgia, she will be a real asset to us as a recruiter."
Merriweather was a four-year letterwinner at Georgia State from 2001-2005, starting for three of those seasons as the point guard. In back-to-back seasons, the Lady Panthers won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and the A-Sun regular season crown, advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Twice during her playing career, Merriweather received A-Sun All-Acadmic honors and Georgia State's ruce LaBudde Sportsmanship Award.
After completing her playing career, the Atlanta native was selected to participate in Nike's "So You Want to be a Coach" program, supported by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the NCAA. Merriweather then moved into an administrative role in the women's basketball office at Georgia State before heading back onto the bench as an assistant coach under head coach Lea Henry.
"I'm very excited to come to Kennesaw State," said Merriweather. "I've known a lot about Kennesaw State for a while since I've been so close to the school for so long. I'm hoping that I can bring some of the things that I've learned perviously and help incorporate them here so that we can win a conference championship."
