KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced that head women’s soccer coach Rob King has been selected as the recipient of the James “Spec” Landrum Award presented to the Women’s Sports Head Coach of the Year in an announcement made on Tuesday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
“We are very proud of the job Coach King did with the women’s soccer program this season,” said Kennesaw State Athletics Director Dr. Dave Waples. “Taking the Owls to the national tournament again identifies the winning tradition at Kennesaw State.”
King won the honor for the fifth time in eight years as he led the Kennesaw State women’s soccer team to the 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships as well as the program’s second trip to the NCAA National Tournament appearance.
“It is quite an honor to be recognized by the administration for this award,” said King. “We have a wealth of talented, successful coaches in our department and I am very appreciative of this award.”
Under King, the Owls have won the NCAA Division II National Championship as well as five conference championships and four tournament titles. Since taking the program to Division I, King has led the Black and Gold to a pair of national tournaments with three A-Sun regular season crowns and two tournament championships.
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will announce the Men’s Sports Coach of the Year on Wednesday, the Female Athlete of the Year on Thursday and the Male Athlete of the Year on Friday.
