Golfweek Bid Story
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State men’s golfer Jeff Karlsson became part of Owls history on Monday evening when he was selected as an at-large selection for the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship on May 20-22 at the Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club.
Karlsson was chosen as the No. 3 individual in the region as the national tournament field was announced in a conference call from Indianapolis. Karlsson is one of 45 individual qualifiers and will participate in the Southeast Regional in Alpharetta.
“We are obviously all proud and pleased that Jeff is the first golfer in KSU history to qualify for the NCAA Division I Tournament,” said Jay Moseley. “It is going to be a challenge for Jeff to make it to nationals, but I feel like his chances are very good.”
“It is a great feeling to be selected to play in the regional,” said Karlsson. “One of my goals at the beginning of the year was to make it to regionals as a team or as an individual. I would have liked to make it as a team and share the experience with my teammates, but I am glad I was selected to make it as an individual.”
The top five teams from the Southeast Regional receive an automatic bid to the national tournament. In order for Karlsson to qualify for the nationals he would have to be the lowest individual not on one of the advancing five teams.
“Jeff has been playing well lately and I like his chances,” added Moseley. “Although I am not familiar with the course, there aren’t too many courses that don’t set up well for his game and he is as capable as anyone to win this championship.”
The three-day event begins on Wednesday, May 19. The Southeast Regional is open to the public and live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com.
