CLEMSON, S.C. - The Owls ended their 2009 regular season on a good note this weekend, setting several new Kennesaw State records at Clemson University on May 8-9.
Owls' sprinter/hurdler, Kendall Parks, who earlier this year, in the Indoor season earned Freshman of the Year at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships was impressive once again at Clemson.
Parks took second place in the 110m hurdles, completing the race with a time of 14.11 to set an NCAA regional qualifying mark, the first to do so on the men's team this season.
The Owls got another strong hurdling performance from Joshua James in the 400m hurdles, placing first in the event with a time of 52.96 to set a new Kennesaw State record.
"As two of our top hurdlers, Kendall and Josh are constantly competing and pushing each other to do better," Assistant Coach Devin West said. "They have both continued to improve with every race. They did a great job this weekend. We are really confident heading into conference."
Sprinter Jemir Martinez added another new KSU record in the 100m dash, taking ninth with a time of 10.77.
In other running events, David Tansey represented the Owls in the 400m, placing third with a time of 49.43, while Gianni Catalano led the Owls in the 800m with a fifth place finish, crossing the line in 1:53.56, followed by Daniel Grass in seventh (1:56.24).
Off the track, Casey Strickland and Aymerick Kolokilagi led the Owls' throwers. Strickland took fourth in the discus (48.64m), sixth in the javelin (51.33m), and eighth in the hammer throw (43.84m), while Kolokilagi earned sixth in the shot put (15.23m), ninth in the discus (44.32m), and sixth in the hammer (45.99m).
The Owls will return to action when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, hosted by the University of North Florida on May 15-16.
